Spring Cleaning On the Inside and Out

Spring has sprung! The birds are chirping, the sun is shining and the flowers are blooming. This is undoubtedly one of my favorite times of the year as everything starts to come back to life after the long winter. Spring is the time when many of us naturally get an urge to get organized by doing spring cleaning. The sun shines into our homes and highlights all of the stuff that we have accumulated over the winter, including a few extra pounds for most of us.

While you are organizing your closet, and cleaning out the storage bin, think about doing a cleanse to facilitate that spring cleaning within. So, what exactly does it mean to do a cleanse? Honestly it can mean anything from doing a water fast to juicing to eating raw foods or just using certain herbs to help the body rid itself of excess toxins. Many of us lead busy and active lives so it would be difficult and possibly dangerous to do a prolonged fast. What's great is that there are “cleanses in a box” that are available to help facilitate the process without completely disrupting your life.

When participating in a body cleanse you are essentially detoxifying the liver, skin, lungs, blood, colon, kidneys, gallbladder and more. This will allow your organs to work better which will vastly improve your health in the long run.

Tips For Doing A Cleanse

1. Choose the right cleanse for you. There are several different cleanses on the market that focus on different areas of concern. For example, cleanses made specifically for smokers, cleanses that focus on the liver which along with the skin are the major organs of detoxification, cleanses for those wanting to lose weight. Some contraindications for doing a cleanse would be if you have had your gall bladder removed in this case consult a physician anyone with severe gastrointestinal issues or liver damage should also consult a doctor before taking part as many of them specifically act on the colon and the liver.

2. Follow the directions. If you are using a cleansing system it should come with thorough instructions. It is very important that you follow the directions to get the maximum effects of the cleanse. If you have any questions or concerns, do not be afraid to call the company that makes the cleansing product to ask questions regarding the cleanse.

3. Clean up your diet. While doing your cleanse, take a little time to think about your food choices. You want to choose fresh foods like organic fruits and vegetables, filtered water and nuts or seeds as snacks.

4. Media Cleanse. Doing a cleanse allows you to focus on your own wellness needs for a couple of weeks. Think about cutting down on shows that are too violent or negative in nature. Use that time to read, meditate, pray, exercise or volunteer.

5. Stick to It. Set a goal to start and finish your cleanse within a certain timeframe. This will give you a sense of accomplishment and may help you transition into a healthier lifestyle that will help you achieve the optimal weight or level of wellness that you seek. One caveat about sticking to the cleanse, if you experience any severe adverse reactions, stop the cleanse immediately and consult your physician.
