Slow the Clock Of Aging With Nutrition
How much of the aging process is in your control? You'd be surprised to find out that you have more control than you think. C-Reactive Protein (CRP) is a simple lab test that your doctor can conduct to give you an indication as to where your levels of inflammation are presently. In addition to its anti-aging properites, it is helpful for those suffering from allergies as it will help to reduce the histamine reaction brought on by pollen, dust and other allergens.
Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) – Blood sugar regulation is essential in the fight against aging. Many studies are showing that people with high blood sugar levels develop chronic disease more than those who do not. ALA is an antioxidant that enhances effects of other antioxidants to fight free radicals in the body and enhance recovery. May enhance insulin sensitivity, improving the body's ability to add lean mass and reduce fat. May be beneficial in persons suffering from type II diabetes and hyperglycemia.
DHEA – This hormone produced in the adrenal glands is a precursor to both estrogen and testosterone. As we age, the amount of DHEA, as with other hormones, begins to decline leading to a number of age related symptoms decreased muscle mass, reduced short-term memory, loss of libido and many others. High levels of stress can also decrease DHEA production, just another reason it is vital to take measures to control stress. Make sure to do your research before supplementing with DHEA or any other hormone.
Melatonin – Produced in the pineal gland in the brain, melatonin is essential for a good night's sleep. It is also a strong antioxidant that helps to maintain the natural biorhythms that helps the body recover from stress and fatigue. There are many studies that show melatonin may be helpful in fighting age related conditions such as cancer, and diabetes.
Blue Green Algae – Sadly, the Standard American Diet is sorely lacking in living foods. Raw foods provide life-giving enzymes that aid in many biochemical functions in the body, which tends to boost energy naturally. Super foods such as blue green algae help slow the aging process by providing important minerals such as magnesium, and acting as a potent antioxidant.
