Benefits Of Chiropractic Care

Have you ever been told not to see a chiropractor because they aren’t real doctors, or that they only treat the spine? Unfortunately, many misconceptions prevent people from receiving chiropractic care that could be greatly beneficial. This article intends to clear up some of these myths that have unfairly been associated with chiropractic.

Let’s clear this up first: Yes, chiropractors are real doctors. Just like an M.D. and a Ph.D., a D.C. (Doctor of Chiropractic) has earned a doctorate in their field. Chiropractors must complete thousands of hours of schooling and must pass intensive examination through the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners in order to be awarded a Doctorate in Chiropractic. Subsequently, a chiropractor is subject to licensing tests and evaluations by their respective state chiropractic board.

Chiropractic is not only for spine or back problems. Although chiropractors commonly treat the spine, there are many musculoskeletal problems that can be helped with chiropractic. Among these are headaches, extremity pain, arthritis, bursitis, sports related injuries and many more. Just as your general practitioner doesn’t treat only one thing, chiropractic is not limited to the spine.

Do chiropractors believe in medicine or surgery? It’s not that chiropractors are anti-medicine or anti-surgery. Chiropractors respect and understand the necessity of both. The practice of chiropractic does, however, emphasize the inherent recuperative ability of the body to heal itself. Therefore, chiropractors help to restore and maintain proper function of the body without the use of more invasive treatments.

Once you start receiving chiropractic care, will you always have to? Chiropractic should be treated as a part of a healthy lifestyle.

Similar to visiting a dentist on a regular basis, after symptoms have been alleviated, one sees a chiropractor for routine maintenance or a tune-up. When you want to lose weight, you don’t stop exercising once you reach your goal weight do you? If you didn’t routinely continue with regular exercise, you wouldn’t be able to maintain your new weight. That is how chiropractic care works. Once your symptoms have resolved, it is wise to get your spine checked periodically to maintain proper function.

In summary, chiropractic is an accepted and safe field of healthcare that is recognized as an effective approach to treating diverse conditions of the human body. Whether you suffer from some painful ailment or just want to maintain a healthy body and lifestyle, looking to chiropractic care is the prudent choice.
