Calories In Equal Calories Out

Is losing weight as simple as the equation; calories in = calories out? There may be more that we need to consider on an individual basis. For the most part, this equation works. However, this does not take into consideration the quality of nutrients you may be providing your body. If our caloric intake were less than the calories burned but the quality of food was less than desirable, the result may be a weight loss, but what about the quality of life or quality of our cells? Our bodies are designed to run optimally on quality nutrients that are mostly found in lean proteins, vegetables, and fruits.
There are many fad diets that lead to initial weight loss. Unfortunately these diets do not have any long-term solutions to your weight loss goal unless you intend to maintain these diets for the remainder of your life.
Eating “healthy” on a consistent basis is the key. This is a process and a lifestyle change that comes in time. It takes research, education, effort, and above all, the desire to want to be healthy. This is a big decision, and it's a decision that needs to be heavily weighed. These are lifestyle changes that need to occur in all aspects of life. Whether you are at a social event, eating in a restaurant, or just at home, deciding what to eat can be overwhelming and a challenge. Creating these healthy habits will provide you with the tools to overcome obesity and avoid future weight gain.
Let's readdress the concern for considering the problems people can have with weight loss on an individual basis. Healthcare practitioners must consider a variety of underlying reasons that one person may have trouble losing the weight and keeping it off. There are physiological reasons that can contribute to weight gain despite efforts to keep it off. An imbalance of hormones released by organs can have an effect on our metabolism, satiety, digestion, and absorption. Healthcare practitioners should explore all avenues to resolve underlying conditions that may contribute to struggling weight loss experiences. The mental health of a person can also have an effect on weight loss. Depression and anxiety can have a physiological effect on the body that can contribute to weight gain or the inability to lose weight.
