Acupuncture For ADHD

Most people think that ADHD symptoms only occur in young children. However, during clinical observation, adults with ADHD symptoms, including hyperactivity, impulsiveness, and inattention, are very common. It is estimated that 12% of children and 8% of adults have been diagnosed with ADHD in the U.S.

If the patient's ADHD symptoms occur, they can affect the patient's normal life. Many adults with ADHD do not accept that they have a problem. Many have a good education and refuse to discuss their condition until the problem seriously develops. At that point they may consider seeking medical assistance.

ADHD patients can suffer from various symptoms. Some have poor concentration, some are disorganized; others may have trouble starting or completing small projects. Overall there are different degrees of symptoms.

Although the causes of ADHD have remained unknown, there are various theories. Some symptoms in children may be slightly improved by the age of 7-8. If the brain and central nervous system is seriously damaged treatment may be less effective.

There are many adults who suffer from some degree of ADHD symptoms that have never been diagnosed.

The main medication prescribed for ADHD patients is Ritalin. It causes very bad side effects such as dry mouth, dry eye, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, headaches, insomnia, etc. Also abuse may lead to dependence.

Many parents are interested in pursuing natural healing for their child without medication. Some seek counseling and other therapies. Acupuncture can be a unique approach in addition to the treatment plan for ADHD patients. For children, acupuncturists may have difficulty convincing them to obtain treatment. As long as they accept the treatment and complete the procedures, it is possible to get a reasonable outcome. Acupuncture treatments must be adequately performed, however, it is a safe and effective healing approach for ADHD patients.
