Health Care Open Enrollment Is Here From November 1st Through December 15th

Health care open enrollment is here and many are wondering on what to know, what to do, where to go and what their options are. The first step is to know your budget and identify your health care needs.

Market Place

If you are looking for a tax credit to help you with your premium and you have health pre-conditions, the market place will be the right place to get your health care coverage. To qualify for a tax credit you must be a citizen or legal resident. This could be a good option for a low-income individual and/or family. Go to healthcare.gov (market place) and enter your information. Based on your income and dependents the website will let you know if you qualify and how much your tax credit might be. (You will be asked to provide proof of income.)

Do You Have Pre-Conditions?

Pre-conditions are health issues such as asthma, diabetes or cancer that you had before the date that new health coverage starts.

Private Health Insurance Plans

If you do not qualify for a tax credit or you do not have a pre-condition, where do you go? Your best option will be private health insurance carriers. Association plans are one of the best options available in the market. These plans are designed to provide affordable premiums with real coverage and additional benefits included.

Online

There are several well-known carriers on the market such as Cigna, Kaiser Permanente, Carefirst, United Health Care, Humana, Aetna and Anthem. The best way to apply to these carriers is by going on-line directly to them and their websites.

Health Insurance Broker
Or Advisor

Brokers or advisors are usually experts in their field and they know what is available. They will be able to help you in person or online. They will give you some options based on the information you provide them with. They will be your on going customer service and be your guide through out the whole process. There are many aspects in getting health care coverage and unless you are well guided, helped and informed you will not be able to get the most out of your benefits.
