Which Facial Filler Is Right For You? Narrowing Down the Playing Field
Facial fillers, also known as “dermal fillers,” have changed the cosmetic arena dramatically over the last decade giving patients more options to push back the hands of time. As we age, our skin becomes more susceptible to wrinkles and sagging.
Sun exposure and years of muscle movement (i.e., smiling, chewing, frowning and squinting) also contribute to the breakdown of the collagen and elastic fibers of the skin. Fortunately, there are innovative cosmetic procedures to help ease this aging process and sustain your youthful glow.
The Different Types Of Facial Fillers
The playing field of facial fillers is expansive and includes Restylane-L, Perlane-L, Juvederm XC, and Radiesse, just to name a few.
JuvedermXC is a hyaluronic gel-based formulation used to instantly smooth wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in our bodies. Lidocaine is also found in Juvederm XC to reduce pain and discomfort. Juvederm is indicated to last up to one year.
Both Restylane-L and Perlane-L are also non-animal, biodegradable hyaluronic gels that add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. Lidocaine has been added to both to reduce pain and discomfort.
Restylane-L is indicated for moderate to severe wrinkles and folds and most individuals do not require topical anesthetic. Perlane-L is indicated for those individuals that may have more prominent or deeper lines and folds. The injection goes into the deep dermis to superficial subcutis. Results for both can last up to one year.
Radiesse is a synthetic dermal filler made of calcium hydroxyapatite utilized for the correction of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. This injectable is a longer-lasting filler because the body forms collagen around the microspheres, adding bulk to the injected areas. Lidocaine is typically mixed with the filler prior to injection to ease pain and discomfort. Results may last up to two years.
How Will Facial
Filler Impact You?
Everyone's skin ages differently; but it is inevitable that we will have more wrinkles and creases later on in life. Facial fillers can help to restore areas of concern such as under eye hollowness, smile lines also known as nasolabial folds (lines running from the side of your nose to the corner of your mouth), marionette lines (lines running down the corner of your mouth making you look as though you are frowning) and pre-jowls (area on either side of your chin) without going “under the knife.”
Is Facial Filler Right For You?
Only you can determine whether the “filler” route is right for you. If you want instant results and minimal downtime and discomfort, then facial fillers may be a great option. Procedures can be performed at “lunchtime.” Your friends will notice that you look refreshed and vitalized immediately. Schedule a consultation with your cosmetic dermatologist to see which filler is right for you.
