Dr. Asha Subramanian

Meet Dr. Asha Subramanian, a remarkable woman whose journey from a medical student to a lifestyle medicine advocate is truly inspiring. When she was diagnosed with endometriosis at just 26 years old, her life took an unexpected turn. Her physician, who also served as the Chairman of the OB/GYN department, suggested having children right away. However, Dr. Asha was determined to find a more sustainable solution.

She delved into extensive research and explored various treatment options, from full-fat dairy yogurt to yoga and acupuncture. But it was a scientific article that changed everything. Discovering the link between dairy, estrogen, and endometriosis, she decided to remove all dairy sources from her diet. The results were astonishing – reduced pain, fewer medications, and a more positive outlook on life. The power of diet and lifestyle to transform health was an eye-opener for her.

Driven by her personal experience, Dr. Asha dived deeper into lifestyle medicine, attending conferences and applying her knowledge to her patients. Witnessing remarkable results, she was convinced that this holistic approach could benefit others as well. With the birth of her healthy daughter in 2013, she founded Diya Lifestyle and Wellness, aiming to provide genuine holistic care to individuals seeking support in whole food, plant-based eating and lifestyle changes.

Through Diya, she dedicates ample time to her clients, inspiring and encouraging them to take steps toward better health. As an advocate for those feeling lost, Dr. Asha believes that everything happens for a reason. Her hope is that her story can positively impact others’ lives, making her journey all the more meaningful.

Dr. Asha’s journey has been filled with notable accomplishments. Her academic achievements include B.A. & M.A. in Psychology with Honors & Distinction from Stanford University, M.D. & Master of Public Health from Oregon Health & Science University School of Medicine, and a Fellowship in Community Health from Georgetown University Medical Center. She serves as an Assistant Professor at Georgetown University in the Department of Family Medicine and holds Diplomates from the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine and the American Board of Family Medicine. Furthermore, she’s certified in Plant-Based Nutrition from Cornell University and is a Certified Food for Life instructor by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. Notably, she has been recognized with the Washingtonian Top Docs Award.
