All About "diVa" Laser Therapy

Laser therapy has long been known to rejuvenate skin by removing unhealthy skin from the surface and stimulating new collagen growth in the deeper skin layers. One of the most effective laser therapies is hybrid laser, where two wavelengths work together to accomplish both purposes. This leading technology can now be used to improve women’s health as well.

diVa is a new laser therapy by Sciton that addresses laxity, thinning and dryness of the vaginal tissues which occurs with childbirth, age, menopause or chemotherapy. As hormones decrease, vaginal tissue thins and becomes dry resulting in painful intercourse. Along with this loosening of the tissue women often experience urinary stress incontinence where they leak urine with exercise, sneezing, coughing, or find themselves unable to “hold it” when trying to reach the rest room.

Hybrid laser therapy for the vaginal canal can improve urinary stress incontinence by tightening the vaginal tissues and supporting the urethra. In addition, the laser stimulation of the vaginal tissue tightens the canal, makes the mucosa healthy again and helps relieve painful sex and vaginal dryness.

It requires three treatments which are given one month apart. The laser probe is inserted into the canal after some numbing cream. The laser settings are tailored to each patient’s issues and hormonal status. The procedure takes only about five minutes and is very comfortable. Afterwards the patient wears a pad for a couple of days but there is no downtime.

diVa is unique in that it has a quartz sheath to protect the vaginal tissue and thus is very comfortable. It is important to have your regular gynecologic check up prior to proceeding.

Patients feel tighter and more lubricated, and it helps to eliminate urine leakage as well. It truly improves the quality of life for women, both pre and post-menopausal.
