Get Healthy in 2016
This time of year, we spend a lot of time reflecting on the past year and setting goals. The number one resolution of the year is to lose weight. Also, six of the top 10 most common resolutions are related to health and wellness. But, by February most of our New Year's resolutions are abandoned.
Many people get personal trainers, or consult a nutritionist to start a diet. But if getting a list of do's and don'ts worked, we would all be healthy and in shape.
What if there was an easy way to keep and stick to our health goals? And what if it was also covered by most health plans? There is such a thing it is called health coaching.
The role of a health coach is to spend the time and attention with patients that doctors cannot, and identify the unhealthy habits that are contributing to being overweight and other medical conditions.
A health coach assesses all areas of your health, not just your diet. The health coach works with you and your doctor to help you not only start a healthier diet, but to maintain a healthy lifestyle you can live with the rest of your life.
A health coach works with you to determine the best foods and habits for you as an individual.
Choosing a health coach
When looking for a health coach, like any medical professional, here are some things to consider
Where did the health coach do their training?
Are they a member of the International Association for Health Coaches or American Association of Drugless Practitioners?
Do they offer sessions in a manner that you are comfortable with, including in-person, group, Skype, phone, etc.?
Does the health coach offer support between sessions via email, FaceBook, etc.?
Does your insurance cover part or all of heath coaching? And if not does the health coach offer payment arrangements you can afford?
By looking for support of a health coach you can begin to make lifelong lifestyle changes that can support you well through 2016. Start of the new year right, and avoid fad diets. Start a new healthy lifestyle in 2016 that will last for the rest of your life.
