Five Fun Exercise Resolutions

You begin each year enthusiastically wanting to get back into an exercise routine and then things taper off likely due to lack of motivation, inspiration, boredom or even due to an injury. Begin the new year with the inspiring attitude that exercise is fun.

1. Start Off Slow. Many people jump right in and start a vigorous exercise routine 3-5 times a week which may lead to serious injury. In the fitness club industry there is always a January rush and the February fall off. It's almost always because people go too hard too fast and get injured. Hiring a personal trainer can help you with a proper routine designed specifically for your body and will prevent injuries. Therefore, you will reach your goals much quicker and more effectively.

2. The Buddy System. Find a buddy to work out with. In today's day and age, we can even seek out distant friends that you make a pact with to exercise and keep each other accountable. Commit to a friend that you will meet them for a bike ride or at the gym, so you have no excuses, you will show up because you made a promise even if you didn't feel like it. Also check out group personal training fitness classes where you will automatically make new friends, stay motivated and prevent injuries.

3. Move Your mASS. Movement is key. Find an activity that you enjoy and have fun while exercising. Do you like to dance, swim, walk, play ball? When it's fun and something you enjoy you will be more likely to stick to it. Just keep on moving your mass.

4. Start a Well Rounded Routine. Remember to get together with your personal trainer to help you with a routine specifically designed for your body that is well rounded and prevents injuries. They are the professional who truly understands how the body works. Even if you hire them for just a few sessions to get you rolling and then revisit with them once a month or so for a fresh new routine and accountability.

5. Start an Exercise Journal. Tracking your progress will let you know if you're moving in the right direction and now with fit bits and online apps it's easy to do. It's so rewarding to see your accomplishments which keeps you motivated. Keep track of your weight and measurements and revisit them once a week or once a month, whichever keeps you more motivated.
