Laser Technology and Podiatry

Podiatry practices have employed the use of lasers during procedures for their benefits and efficiency. Although the laser has myriad of uses, the laser is very successful in helping people who are looking to treat their fungal toenails as well as those who have musculoskeletal pain in their lower extremity.

The laser has a simple setup and works quietly and efficiently with a handheld wand that has an array of detachable hand pieces depending on what treatment is required. There is relatively no pain associated with the laser treatments that are incorporated, aside from occasional warming of the area that is being treated.

Without getting too scientific and technical, the laser works by emitting energy in the visible and infrared spectrum creating topical heating for the purpose of elevating tissue temperatures resulting in the temporary destruction of fungal hyphae in toenails, and relief of minor muscle pain and joint stiffness. The laser creates a temporary increase in local blood circulation, and /or temporary muscular relaxation, which can be helpful in treating the relief of muscle spasms, minor arthritis pain and some minor neuropathic symptoms all with subsequent treatments.
