Minimally Invasive Surgical Disc Decompression
Traditional discectomy, a surgical procedure performed in the hospital that typically involves a lengthy recovery, is frequently used for the treatment of herniated discs. The elliquence Disc-FX System is an outpatient minimally invasive alternative to traditional open spine surgery for appropriate candidates.
What Is the Elliquence Disc-FX System?
The elliquence Disc-FX System safely, rapidly, and effectively accesses and treats damaged discs without injury to surrounding disc anatomy.
Using X-ray guidance, the Disc-FX System is inserted into the center of the herniated disc and the damaged tissue is removed or decompressed, which reduces pressure on the disc and eases symptoms. Multiple discs may be treated in a single procedure.
This minimally invasive disc surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure using only a local anesthetic and a single small skin incision. You will go home the same day of the procedure with only a small bandage on your back. The procedure does not interfere with the ability to have traditional open spine surgery if later needed. Because the procedure is less invasive than traditional surgery, the recovery process is shorter and less painful.
Potential Benefits Of the Procedure
Outpatient procedure
Minor skin incision
Short procedure time
Multiple treatment options
Local anesthetic
Targeted access to damaged (diseased) area
Treat multiple disc levels
Quick relief of symptom
Earlier return to normal activities
Minimal tissue damage
Preserves all additional surgical options, should they be needed
Who Is a Candidate For the Disc-FX Procedure?
If your herniated disc has not responded to conservative care, but you are not yet ready for major surgery, you may be a candidate. Patients experiencing the typical symptoms of a herniated disc lower back pain or pain radiating down the leg accompanied by some lower back pain may experience relief.
Disc-FX may not be beneficial for advanced degenerative disc disease or spinal fractures.
