Sinus Pain Relaxing and Effective Approaches

The change of season also brings changes to our bodies as we respond in different ways to cooling temperatures and evolving plant cycles. Many of us experience sinus pain, pressure, and headaches brought on by barometric pressure changes and reactions to certain plant pollens and molds. The most common ways to alleviate these symptoms is through the use of medications, which can have negative side effects such as drowsiness and dehydration. Manual techniques can be very effective in relieving sinus troubles, and also be very relaxing and restorative.

Rejuvenating Facelift Massage is a technique that has multiple benefits, one being relief from sinus pressure. While the primary intention of this technique is to improve the health and appearance of the skin, the relief it can provide from sinusitis is significant. Warm towels are applied to the face followed by detailed massage strokes around the sinus areas to relieve congestion. Some of the strokes incorporate acupressure points to open the meridians, or pathways of energy. Warmth from the towels, which are infused with essential oils promote circulation in the tissues, and the massage strokes clear congestion.

Another effective manual technique is the cold stone face massage. This approach includes applying massage strokes in conjunction with the use of cold stones, and using hot and cold towels as thermotherapy. The cold stones act as a cool compress to relieve pressure, while the temperature of the towels help to flush the tissues.

Both of the massage techniques as further enhanced with the use of essential oils in the treatment, which enhance circulation, aid breathing, inhibit infection, and help the client to relax more deeply during the session. Essential oils used may include frankincense, rosemary, eucalyptus, lavender, ravensara, or niouli. The oils may also be used as a follow-up treatment at home in compresses or steams.
