Holistic Prevention and Treatment Of Cancer
First of all, you should always confer with your hematologist/oncologist, as they genuinely have your best interests in mind, and any decisions should always include their input. That said, although modern medicine has made great strides in the treatment of cancer, we could definitely put a lot more effort into its prevention.
Artificial Ingredients
It is not new information that many of the artificial ingredients that are allowed by the FDA in our food supply are banned in most other countries. Removing these artificial ingredients from the diets of patients could be more effective than medications for treating a host of medical problems. As some of these ingredients are known carcinogens, patients should avoid foods containing those ingredients.
Animal Proteins
We all know that a diet high in animal proteins plays a huge role in the development of high cholesterol and obesity. But current research also shows us that diets high in animal proteins also predispose to cancer. The cancer cells seem to grow more often and more rapidly with diets high in animal proteins. As there are so many wonderful recipes with plant-based proteins, consider trying a few of them and blending them into your family meal plan. The rewards will play out for decades to come.
Ammonia
Although a clean environment is definitely one of the major advances in the health of human populations, outside of an operating room, there is no research to suggest that a sterile environment is good or desirable in your home. Definitely clean your home with green cleaners such as vinegar, but use extra precautions when using ammonia-based cleaners. There are also emerging studies to suggest a causal relationship between ammonia and cancer tumor growth. Although we cannot take this current information to make the claim that ammonia causes cancer, we can say it is not needed in your home, and may cause harm.
Clean water
Chlorine in water does reduce the risk of bacterial disease. However, when chlorine interacts with other substances, it can form new compounds that do seem to have a link with cancer, according to the Canadian Cancer Society. No one is suggesting that we remove chlorine from our water supply. However, drink the refrigerator filtered water, which will remove excess chlorine and consider putting a 20 dollar filter on your shower head. These are very simple things you can do to decrease the risk to benefit ratio.
Increasingly, we live in a polarized society and seem to refute any statement as a matter of course. However, I do not think it is too controversial to say eat whole foods, eat more veggies, avoid extra chemicals and keep your water as clean as possible. This strategy will help your health in numerous ways, and may in fact reduce your risk of cancer.
