What Is Eyelid Surgery?
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, can be divided into two categories upper eyelid and lower eyelid surgery. While each procedure addresses different areas of the eyes, the reasons for consideration are the same; to remove and tighten excessive skin for a more alert, youthful and attractive appearance. This will also result in reduced wrinkles around the eyes and improvement in the overall shape of the eyes.
For the upper eyelids, excess skin and fat are removed through an incision hidden in the natural eyelid crease. If the lid is droopy, the muscle that raises the upper lid can be tightened. The incision is then closed with fine sutures.
For lower eyelids, fat in the lower eyelids can be removed or repositioned through an incision hidden on the inner surface of the eyelid. Upper and lower blepharoplasty can be performed together and also can be combined with other procedures such as eyebrow or forehead lift, mid face lift, face lift, neck lift, or laser skin resurfacing
Your eyes are often the first thing people notice about you and are an important aspect of your overall appearance. In addition to cosmetic purposes, Blepharoplasty can also improve the vision. Once excess skin or fat is removed from the upper eyelids a less obstructive view of field can be enjoyed.
Choosing the right surgeon is essential in attaining the best possible results for your Blepharoplasty. A facial cosmetic surgeon is well versed in all muscles and the intricacies of the face including the eyes. The specialized training and expertise in dealing with the area of the face is very valuable when searching for your surgeon. A professional yet warm environment and staff also lend to a comfortable and successful surgery.
