Understanding and Treating Cellulite

You know what it looks like, dimpled, uneven skin that appears on your thighs, hips, buttocks and other parts of your body. Cellulite affects the vast majority of women, usually after puberty. While many believe cellulite to be a fat problem, cellulite is actually a hormonally based condition. It is caused by a herniation or rupture of fat through the fibrous tissue and the subsequent pulling back of this tissue that creates dimpled areas.

Cellulite is nearly impossible to eliminate entirely; however, there are steps you can take to help reduce the appearance of cellulite. Eating a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and fiber; staying hydrated with plenty of fluids; exercising regularly to keep muscles toned; maintaining a healthy weight; and not smoking are all steps you can take to help address cellulite.

While cellulite isn’t a serious medical condition, if you’re concerned about the appearance of your skin, there are medical treatments available to address cellulite.

One of the newest cellulite treatments is Cellulaze. Approved by the FDA, Cellulaze is the only minimally invasive laser procedure designed to attack the structure of cellulite beneath your skin.

During a Cellulaze treatment, a very small cannula (or tube about the size of the tip of a pen) is inserted under the skin. A laser fiber inside the tube delivers energy directly under the skin. This increases the thickness and quality of your skin, while simultaneously releasing the fibrous bands that pull it down. Finally, the cellulite laser is used to diminish the lumpy pockets of fat that protrude through the fibrous bands under your skin.

Cellulaze has been thoroughly investigated to ensure safer, effective results. A clinical study published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal found that a single Cellulaze treatment improved the appearance of cellulite for one year with few side effects. Further, 93% of patients surveyed were satisfied or very satisfied with their results one year post-procedure, and all would recommend the Cellulaze treatment to a friend.
