How Does the SmartSkin CO2 Laser Work?

A fractional carbon dioxide (CO2) laser works by splitting the laser's light into tiny beams that penetrate the skin at a controlled depth. The targeted cells are vaporized by the heat and the surrounding, non-targeted tissue is heated.

As the areas heal, the skin contracts and tightens; at the same time, the areas that have been heated produce new, healthier collagen.

Since SmartSkin is a fractional laser, recovery time is significantly less than the recovery time for a non-fractional laser treatment.

How Does SmartSkin Resurface and Rejuvenate Skin?

SmartSkin is a micro-ablative laser. It removes varying amounts of the top, outermost layer of the epidermis (skin).

The dermis is simultaneously treated with heat from the laser and begins to remodel itself by stimulating the production of new collagen, giving the skin a more youthful and healthy appearance, as well as more volume.

How Long Are Treatments?

Treatments can take from take 20 minutes to an hour, depending on the areas treated.

During the procedure medication is given to make the patient as comfortable as possible.

Most areas can be treated just once to get significant results. After treatment, patients look as if they have deep sunburn. Downtime is usually three to seven days.

When Will I See Results?
