Look More Youthful With Botox

Do you see any wrinkles between your brows? How about your forehead? Have you checked your eyes, have crows feet started to emerge? Well, fret no more. You can frown and furrow to your hearts delight because a weapon has been found that gets rid of these lines thats both safe and effective.
Botulinum Toxin Type A, or Botox as it is more commonly known, is a purified neurotoxin protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The effects of botulinum toxin have been known since the turn of the century, but not until 1980 was the toxin found to be therapeutically valuable for a number of eye disorders.

How does it work?

Botox is a nerve impulse blocker. It provides temporary muscle paralysis by binding to nerve endings and preventing the release of chemical transmitters that activate muscles. These chemicals carry the message from the brain that causes a muscle to contract; if the message is blocked, the muscle doesnt spasm.
Botox was originally used as a safe and effective treatment for blepharospasm (eyelid spasms). Over ten years of clinical experience involving thousands of patients has been reported. In the process of treating patients with these disorders, physicians noticed an extra benefit, their expression lines disappeared. Hence the use of Botox injections for cosmetic purposes.

Is It Safe?

Botox has been recognized by the American Academy of Neurology, American Academy of Ophthalmology, and National Institutes of Health as a safe and effective treatment for blepharospasm. For these disorders it is an ongoing treatment not a cure. As for its use in the cosmetic field, its safety record has been stellar. Physicians have reported no allergic reactions with a margin of safety greater than that for aspirin. Botox injections dissolve leaving no cumulative effect.
Botox injections are easily administered during routine office visits. The ease, safety and excellent results achieved with Botox injections have made this procedure, along with collagen and fat injections, amongst the leading in-office procedures performed by plastic surgeons. These procedures complement each other with collagen and fat lasting longer after Botox injections. Botox is injected directly into the facial muscles, weakening and reducing the muscular pull on the skin and therefore eliminating the ability to form deep forehead, frown and crows feet lines. Generally, the results can be seen within 72 hours and lasts an average of three to six months. Since the nerve endings usually grow new connections to the muscle at sites that have not been exposed to Botox, the treatment must be repeated. However, the results last longer with each successive injection.

Any side effects?

The only possible side effects are a minor bruise in the injected area, or the temporary paralysis of an unwanted area due to migration of the substance. The results of Botox injections are temporary, with no loss of sensation in spite of the loss of muscle contraction.

What is the cost?

The cost of the procedure is linked to how much Botox is used. The procedure is affordable with the average charge by physicians ranging between $400 to $600 per area injected.
Botox injections work on patients of all age groups, and both men and women can use the procedure to their advantage. Though the injections can prevent the furrowing and frowning, the effect will not erase damage caused by sun.
So go ahead, squint, frown and get mad. We can make it all disappear.
