Cosmetic Surgery Trends
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons publishes a yearly national plastic surgery statistics report. The report is considered one of the most anticipated statistical data sets in the cosmetic field, linking economic growth to minimally invasive and surgical cosmetic procedures. It showed a 5% increase in surgical and minimally invasive cosmetic plastic surgery procedures performed in the U.S. Plastic surgery has long been an economic indicator. As the economy rebounds, so does the plastic surgery industry. Plastic surgery is a sign of better economic times. Furthermore, the ASPA Plastic Surgery News points to the fact that new competition in the workplace has an impact on the increased interest in investing in plastic surgery procedures, specifically for the older population looking for a competitive edge.
Cosmetic Surgery Procedures
1. Breast Augmentation Still at the top of the list for the 5th year in a row with 296,203 procedures performed in 2010. A 2% increase in breast augmentations from 2009, with silicone implants being used in 60% of the procedures.
2. Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping) Comes in second on the list with 252,261 nose jobs performed in 2010. With the improvement in people's finances, people waiting to have their nose reshaped are now willing to spend the money.
3. Eyelid surgery (Blepharoplasty ) 208,764 performed in 2010. The procedure improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both, giving a rejuvenated, alert and rested appearance.
4. Liposuction 203,106 performed in 2010. Although liposuction was the runner up in popularity to breast augmentation in 2008, it remains one of the best surgical options for patients with normal weight with isolated fatty areas.
5. Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) 116,352 performed in 2010. The procedure, along with all surgical body contouring procedures following massive weight loss from bariatric surgery, experienced a growth in 2010. The number also represents a 1% increase from 2009 and an 86% increase from 2000.
Cosmetic Minimally Invasive Procedures
1. BOTOX, Dysport Botulinum Toxin Type A is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows. Botox blocks nerve impulses to the injected muscle. 5,379,360 injections were performed in 2010, making it an incredibly popular procedure. This is a staggering 584% increase from 2000.
2. Fillers, Juvederm, Radiesse, Restylane Soft tissue fillers work as volume and wrinkle fillers that smooth away facial wrinkles and folds. Soft tissue fillers amounted to 1,773,328 treatments.
3. Chemical Peel Long the standard, affordable and shorter procedure for clear, blended and glowing skin, chemical peels have kept their spot on the charts with no significant change within the last ten years with 1,144,865 performed in 2010.
4. Laser Hair Removal 937,602 laser hair removal treatments in 2010. A 5% increase from 2009 and a 27% increase from 2000.
5. Microdermabrasion In spite of all the new technologies and laser procedures that have come up in the last few years, 827,706 microdermabrasions were performed in 2010. Microdermabrasion involves using the exfoliating action of an abrasive tip with a vacuum across the skin, removing dead and damaged skin cells. The procedure brings a sparkling tone to the skin and regenerates the cell structure.
Here at Luxxery, Dr. Hakki has seen the same increase in surgical and nonsurgical plastic surgery procedures, and in the same order. Many of our loyal patients are ready for more procedures. And with improvements in the economy, many patients are willing to spend more to look better. We have seen an increased demand for cosmetic surgery.
Dr. Hakki's creative expertise in using patient's own fat to rejuvenate the face and body makes fat injections the number one procedure performed at Luxxey in 2010. Fat injections to the breast (natural breast augmentation), fat injections to the buttocks (Brazilian butt lift) and fat injections to the face (natural face lift) are now the most popular procedures used by Dr. Hakki at Luxxery. A 14% increase in fat injections procedures has been reported in Plastic Surgery News. At Luxxery, the procedure increased 40%.
