diVa Laser Therapy and Women’s Wellness
As women age, vaginal tissue can become looser, dry, thinner and have poorer blood supply. This can be a result of childbirth, loss of estrogen, decreasing ovarian function, menopause or chemotherapy. Vaginal dryness, pain with intercourse (dyspareunia), urine leakage with exercise, coughing or sneezing are common complaints from women that affect everyday life.
Vaginal laser therapy with diVA® may improve the laxity and blood supply of the vaginal canal tissue. This can result in thickening of the tissue, better blood supply and lubrication, better urethral support as the tissue tightens. For women, this can mean better lubrication, healthier tissue, and tighter vaginal canal and often may improve urinary stress incontinence.
Hybrid fractional laser therapy (two wavelengths working on tissue at the same time) improves the surface of the skin as well as the deeper layers of skin where collagen and blood supply lie. Treating the surface creates fresh new skin while removing the older unhealthy layers.
Treating the deeper tissue stimulates collagen, can improve blood supply and tighten skin. This hybrid fractional technology can also improve the strength and quality of the vaginal canal tissue when applied with diVa laser technology by Sciton.
Three treatments are recommended, about one month apart. It only takes about ten minutes, with some additional time for numbing cream before the procedure. The laser probe is placed within a quartz sheath to protect the tissues, within the vaginal canal, and works in a circular motion. There is little to no downtime. There may be some spotting or light bleeding afterward.
It is wise to have an exam with your gynecologist before undergoing any vaginal laser therapy. Women may see improvement in urinary leakage, less pain, and tightening of the vaginal canal with healthier vaginal tissue as well. Hybrid fractional vaginal laser therapy has been a wonderful solution for some women experiencing vaginal laxity, dryness or urinary leakage.
