Prevent Diabetes and Heart Disease A Healthy Lifestyle Can Help

There is an undeniable correlation between diabetes (types 1 and 2) and heart disease. People with diabetes have an increased risk of getting heart disease. The good news is that type 1 diabetes can be controlled and type 2 can be prevented. However, those with type 1 diabetes will have to watch for the risk factors of heart disease such as high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Type 2 diabetes can be prolonged or prevented by watching your weight and eating right. The risk of getting type 2 diabetes goes up with obesity coupled with other heart disease risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking and poor blood sugar levels.

Decreasing the risk factors for heart disease and reducing your weight are the keys to controlling type 1 or preventing type 2 diabetes. Exercise and eating right are going to be essential. Exercise will not only help with weight reduction, but it can also lower both cholesterol and blood pressure. Making healthy food choices will also help with these risk factors and lowering your weight.

Starting a healthy lifestyle program of eating right and exercise can be difficult for some to begin and/or adhere to. Seeking the help of a personal trainer and/or nutritionist can help you make the necessary changes. The benefits of making a lifestyle change go beyond disease prevention. You will sleep better, have more energy and enjoy an overall feeling of well being. Many times people suffer a heart attack or stroke before they make the necessary changes in their lifestyle. Don't wait until it's too late.

If you show any signs of cardiovascular disease risk or have diabetes, you should consult your doctor before starting any exercise program. Call a health professional today and start living a healthier life tomorrow. You will be amazed at the quality of life it will bring.
