Do You Have Chronic Dry Eye? There Is Now a Quick, Comfortable, and Affordable Procedure Offering Relief
Many patients suffer from chronic dry eye and complain of irritation, discomfort with contact lenses, burning, eyestrain and/or blurred vision. In fact, over 30 million people suffer from chronic dry eye, with evaporative dry eye as the leading cause. Increased digital device use has exacerbated the issue, with so many people staring at screens all day long.
MiBo ThermoFlo® is a revolutionary new technology targeted at treating the root cause of evaporative dry eye disease: a poor lipid layer resulting from an insufficient amount of meibum secreted onto the ocular surface from the meibomian glands in the eyelids. This causes the tears on the surface of the eye to evaporate too quickly.
Improving meibomian gland function is the mainstay of modern therapy. MiBo ThermoFlo uses thermoelectric heat via a handheld probe that has a double eye pad attached with ultrasound gel applied to the end to facilitate the heat transfer through the lid to the meibomian glands. Liberated surfactants and improved lipid secretions create an enhanced tear film, improving corneal wetting to reduce or eliminate the signs and symptoms of ocular surface disease. The treatment is comfortable, effective, convenient, and affordable.
The clogged glands are softened and the oil mobilized through gentle ocular message. Many patients enjoy the soothing massage and spa-like treatment. Rejuvenation of the body’s natural lipid secretions through multiple applications appears to be the most effective strategy.
Evaporative dry eye is a chronic condition requiring periodic but regular maintenance. Although most patients experience some relief after just one treatment, eye care professionals find that a series of three treatments over a few weeks is the most effective. After that, most patients come back approximately every six months for an additional treatment, just as they would see their dentist every six months for a cleaning.
