Make More Time For the Seniors in Your Life

Sometimes, it feels like there's too much to do, and not enough time to do it. While skipping date night won't have lasting consequences, time with elders is precious and a few missed seconds now may be regretted for a lifetime.

Spending time with grandparents, great grandparents and other loved ones is very important, providing you both with companionship, love, and support. With these tips, you can streamline your organizational skills so that these precious minutes don't go to waste.

Keep a calendar – By writing down all obligations, you're less likely to forget appointments. Record all plans with your loved ones so that you never forget a lunch date or phone call.

Schedule regular meetings – You have weekly conference calls at work, so why not weekly calls or dates with the seniors in your life? With a standing appointment, you can make plans a regular habit.

Sync your schedules – Have a work calendar, a calendar on your phone, and another on your laptop? Sync them together so that your obligations are always in front of you.

Assign yourself an important role – Does your loved one require regular doctor appointments or at-home health care? By making yourself a key part of these kinds of responsibilities, you'll always be able to make time.

Make plans with other family members – When you involve others in your plans, it's much easier to hold yourself accountable. By involving other loved ones or family friends, you have more incentive to make time.

Set a different ring tone – Tired of unimportant phone calls? Assign a different ring tone to the seniors in your life so that you know you'll always know when you're needed.

Plan senior-friendly events – Seniors may not want to spend hours wandering around the mall but everyone likes a nice meal. When you choose senior-friendly destinations, loved ones can always be included.

Ask for advice – Instead of calling a friend or other family member when you're stressed, think of the seniors you know. With years of life experience to share, you have easy access to assistance for any situation.

Schedule early – Instead of putting off commitments, agree to important things early and document your obligations. With plans set in stone weeks or months in advance, you're less likely to cancel.

Master multitasking – Watch TV to unwind? Update your calendar or tackle take-home work projects during commercial breaks. By combining tasks, you can free up additional time to devote to senior loved ones.

Caring for loved ones doesn't have to detract from your other life commitments. With the proper approach to organization, you can easily make time to assist with care for sick, aging, and disabled loved ones while benefiting from the wisdom.
