Massage As Modern Medicine
Thanks to the modern day sitcom, people are often under the assumption that massage therapy only consists of either “fluff and buff” or “painfully deep” treatments. What if someone told you that massage therapy could be used in a more medical sense?
Massage therapy can be utilized on its own or in tandem with physical therapy, chiropractic, and in some cases alongside medical and osteopathic doctors.
If you find yourself in a static position throughout the day, such as working in an office, and you can’t escape the soreness or discomfort, a massage treatment may be a viable option for you. If you have experienced an injury and have had a diminished range of motion in a joint, a massage treatment may help get you back to 100%. Massage therapy can also improve recovery time from surgeries.
When making an appointment for a treatment please communicate your goals or expectations for the session with the therapist, not everyone takes the approach of “massage as medicine” and hopefully they can refer you to a colleague that is a better fit for you.
