Your Heart Knows Best
You can build a better life for yourself if you focus with your heart on what you need and want. Stop for a moment and take your pulse. How much is it right now? You can take it at your wrist or your carotid artery. Note the number of beats in 15 seconds using your timer, or watching the clock, as so many of us do. Multiply by four. That is your heart rate per minute.
Now notice what you were thinking as you took your pulse. Was it something pleasant? Something anxiety producing? Try thinking about different activities you enjoy and take your pulse again. Go out in nature and sit or walk for 20 minutes Now what is it?
A normal pulse is between 62 and 84 beats per minute. Notice what thoughts or activities slow your heart down if it is too fast. Notice what thoughts or activities speed it up if it is too slow. And, by the way, see your doctor if your pulse is outside of normal limits.
Lifestyle changes benefit your heart: breathing, diet, exercise, doing the activities you enjoy, being with family and friends that you love, losing weight, meditating, and stopping smoking, of course.
In our busy world, the self-care that would benefit your heart often comes last. Doing what you love is essential to life. Think and do what you love now. Get care and treatment from practitioners who support your heart health. Your heart and body will thank you.
