These 6 Health Issues Can Be Corrected Without Too Much Effort
Certain health issues can feel overwhelming to address, but many common situations can be improved through straightforward lifestyle changes that aren’t too dramatic. By implementing consistent changes to your daily routine and lifestyle, you can make some meaningful progress in addressing the following issues.
1. Poor eyesight
Most people take their ability to see for granted until they experience some type of vision impairment or loss. Thankfully, there are many conditions that are treatable to a certain degree. For example, if you have cataracts, glaucoma, nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), or astigmatism, LASIK eye surgery is an option. LASIK has a high success rate at just over 80%, which is why it’s so popular. However, it’s not the solution for everyone.
If you’re looking for other ways to improve your eyesight, you can try a variety of options, like quitting smoking, exercising more, eating well, and doing various eye exercises.
2. Addictions
At first glance, correcting an addiction can seem like an impossible feat. When you’ve had an addiction for a long period of time, it feels like it’s part of you and won’t be easy to change. Maybe you’ve tried to eliminate addictions in the past and have failed. However, you may have been trying to do too much at once.
One of the most effective ways to curb an addiction is to do it slowly and celebrate your progress along the way, no matter how small. For example, if you smoke cigarettes, make a conscious choice to smoke one less cigarette each day. If you know how much you typically smoke, give yourself that allotment and then taper off one cigarette at a time. You have to get your body used to the idea that sometimes you’ll choose not to smoke. It’s a gradual process, but it works for a lot of people.
3. Stress and anxiety
Both stress and anxiety aren’t hard to reduce or eliminate if you know and use the right tools. Meditation happens to be one of the best stress busters because it’s free, easy, and doesn’t take much of your time.
The effects of meditation are cumulative, so you don’t have to commit to hours of work every day. The ideal time is around 20 minutes. According to research, after 20 minutes, the additional benefits are minimal.
Other ways to beat stress and anxiety include going for walks in nature, eating clean, organic food, spending time with pets, and starting a nutritional supplement regimen that includes necessary minerals.
4. Nutritional deficiencies
For most people who eat a balanced diet, nutritional supplements aren’t necessary, but if you’ve been told you have a nutritional deficiency or you suspect it, certain supplements can help. People who typically need supplements are those who are older, pregnant, on medication, or are experiencing digestive issues.
Keep in mind that most supplements on the market aren’t pure and many don’t even contain the right kind of nutrients. So before you start taking a multivitamin, do your research to find a reputable brand. But first, make sure you actually need the nutrients by consulting with a nutritional expert.
5. Posture issues
Poor posture can put tension and strain on your tendons, ligaments, and muscles. If you’re experiencing pain from poor posture, you can correct it with simple methods. You also may want to see a chiropractor to get your spine, hips, and neck back into alignment.
6. Insomnia
There are a variety of reasons people develop insomnia, but it’s actually not that hard to correct with a little bit of effort.
The most common causes for insomnia are stress, anxiety, depression, noise, light, late or inconsistent working hours, caffeine intake, and uncomfortable beds. It can even be caused by constant disruptions to your sleep during the night, like other people in the house or pets jumping on and off you.
Once you acknowledge what’s causing your sleep problems, you can rearrange your routine to eliminate the cause. For example, you might need to ask people in your house to turn down televisions and music at a certain hour, or start using ear plugs to block out noise you can’t control. If you sleep with a pet, it might be time to crate them for the night.
Move forward one step at a time
No matter what you’re dealing with, take it one step at a time. You don’t have to shock your system by making dramatic lifestyle changes overnight. Take baby steps. Remember that small, consistent efforts over time yield the most sustainable results.
