Why Dental Implants? A Patient's Story

You may have heard about dental implants but not really understood what impact they can have on your life. To give you a first-hand look at the difference dental implants can make, I would like to share a story about an implant patient.

“Due to neglect, I had lost all of my teeth to decay several years ago. The only option I was given at that time was dentures. Even though they were better than no teeth at all, they never really looked like 'real teeth,' and I always had trouble with them shifting around in my mouth or tilting uncomfortably when I was eating. I was told that a reline wouldn't help. I was going to have to live with it. My lower denture was out more than in.

I had read and heard of implants but was reluctant chicken to think of having them placed. Meanwhile, the denture got worse, and I found it difficult to chew, and even my speaking was bothering me, as well as 'clacking' teeth. I knew I must do something.

A friend suggested I consider dental implants and recommended a dentist that performed the procedure. I balked and he said, 'Just go get the free consultation and see what he says.'

That was the best thing I ever did. He explained the procedure to me and put my mind at rest. Now, all I had to do was schedule the work. The cost was a concern, but the dentist laid out a schedule and payment plan that fit my budget, so I decided to go for it.

The treatment went even better than I anticipated. Over the course of the next six months, I had all my teeth replaced with dental implants. I also found out that it was good that I had gone to a dentist that could provide all the treatment in one office so I didn't have to be bounced around from one place to another. It saved me money too.

Now, I can't believe it when I look in the mirror and see my smile. I never thought I would have teeth that looked this great ever again. Not only that, but now I can eat anything I want without the fear of my dentures moving or, worse yet, falling out. I even eat steak and corn on the cob without thinking twice.

If you are someone who has dentures or just a few missing teeth, I would highly recommend getting dental implants placed. I put it off for way too long, and now I can't imagine going back to wearing those awful dentures.

I would also recommend doing a bit of research before choosing which dentist will do your implants. Go for a consultation to get all the information before you decide anything. You won't regret making the decision to get dental implants with the right dentistI know I sure don't.”
