Root Canal Treatment and Its Cost in Mumbai

What Is a Root Canal?

When tooth decay or a cavity reaches the pulp of your tooth, it causes pain and discomfort. It is because the infection spreads to the interior part of the tooth. Further delay in addressing the infection can result in complete damage to the tooth.

Why Is a Root Canal Needed?

A root canal is a common dental procedure that helps to clear the infection by removing the infected part to prevent the spread of the infection.

Our teeth structure comprises an outer enamel layer, succeeded by a layer of dentin, with an inner core extending deeply into the root of our jawbone.

When the infection reaches the core, the inner part of the pulp gets inflamed or swollen. If the infection is not controlled at this level, it can damage the teeth and require tooth extraction.

Under such circumstances, root canal treatment is essential to stop the spread of infection and treat the tooth’s infected root canal. After removing the infected portion within the tooth, the area undergoes meticulous cleaning and disinfection. Subsequently, a filling is applied to seal the cavity, preserving the integrity of the natural tooth.

Signs That Indicate You Need a Root Canal Treatment

When you experience pain and discomfort with your tooth, it is time to get it checked. You should see your dentist at this stage for timely treatment. You can keep a watch on these early signs.

Here are some of the symptoms:

  • Continuous toothache
  • Sensitivity to hot and cold foods
  • Discoloration of the tooth
  • Swelling of the gums
  • Pain upon touching the tooth
  • Tooth with a chip or crack
  • Development of boils on the gums
  • Intense pain during chewing or biting
  • Your dentist will examine the tooth and take X-rays to confirm the diagnosis.

Root Canal Procedure:

An endodontist or a root canal specialist can perform a root canal treatment for you. The procedure can vary from simple to complex, depending on the case. Following is the procedure for a root canal:

  • Your dentist will examine your tooth and take an X-ray to determine the extent of the infection. It helps to understand the number of roots around the tooth and the level of damage.
  • Your dentist will administer local anaesthesia to numb the area around the tooth. It makes the entire procedure pain-free.
  • The dentist will use a rubber sheet around the tooth to keep it dry and saliva-free during the treatment.
  • After this, the dentist will drill a small hole in the tooth through the enamel. It allows it to reach the infected part of the tooth.
  • Your dentist will remove the damaged pulp and the bacteria and clean the area. The infected part is removed and cleaned.
  • After this, your dentist or endodontist will fill the root canals with a biocompatible gutta-percha material. It helps seal the root canals and blocks all the openings to prevent infection.
  • Finally, the tooth is covered or restored with a filling or a dental crown. It protects the tooth from breaking and strengthens its functions.

Precautions after Root Canal

After a root canal procedure, it’s common for the tooth to experience sensitivity in the surrounding tissues for the initial days. However, this discomfort typically subsides within a few hours or up to two days. Here are some essential steps to follow after a root canal treatment:

  • After the treatment, refrain from chewing on the affected tooth temporarily
  • Maintain regular oral hygiene by brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash
  • Keep up with scheduled dental appointments
  • Visit your dentist immediately if your pain doesn’t subside after 2-3 days.

How Much Does a Root Canal Cost in Mumbai:

Root canal costs might differ everywhere and vary from person to person. There are various factors that can determine the cost of root canal treatment. The following are the factors that affect the root canal treatment cost in Mumbai:
