High Tech Dentistry Allows Fewer Visits To the Dentist

For years, dental patients have had to endure metal crowns or off-color veneers that ultimately detract from their smile. Not only can conventional restorative techniques look aesthetically unappealing, they also require multiple visits to the dentist which means more time spent numbed, and more time lost on going back and forth. In the last 30 years a new type of restoration has emerged and it offers longer-lasting restorations, naturally colored results, and less time at the dentist's office. This technique is known as “CEREC.”

CEREC is an acronym that stands for Chairside Economic Restoration of Esthetic Ceramic. It is a technology that was developed in Germany 27 years ago by SIRONA Corporation in conjunction with Dr. Werner Mormann, who was the inventor. CEREC was essentially a CAD CAM (Computer Aided Design Computer Assisted Milling) process that allows dentists to make replacement teeth in the office for patients in one visit, but that is only one of the advantages.

With modern CEREC technology everything can be done in one visit. Not only is the process of making a crown/veneer/bridge finished in one visit, but also the final result has a fit and tolerance so much better than what could be previously produced in a dental laboratory.

You only need to be numbed for one appointment. Before we had CEREC the patient had to wear a temporary tooth for two weeks while the permanent crown was being made in the dental laboratory.

The material used is designed to match your other teeth. All ceramic materials used in the process look more like natural teeth because there is no metal involved and the latest ceramic materials are just as strong as the old-fashioned metal type crowns/bridges.

CEREC can provide optimal durability when compared to traditional methods. Through stronger materials and a more precise milling process, CEREC restorations offer a high-strength and natural solution that won't wear out prematurely or wear out your other teeth, either.

Precision-milled restorations deliver custom results. Thanks to impressive 3D imaging software and diamond burrs, the ceramic materials use can be shaped to your specifications for a more comfortable fit and with the new CEREC 4, tolerances as low as 25 microns.

Choosing CEREC isn't just a way to improve the quality and longevity of your teeth it's about having choices. Not only are there multiple options for material, but the variety of color-matched ceramic and applications allow you to take advantage of this restorative technique in more ways than one. With CEREC, you finally have the luxury of choosing to keep that award-winning smile, even after having parts of it fixed up or replaced completely.

Suffice it to say, CEREC (4) is the best modern dentistry has to offer you today.
