Advancements To Improve Your Smile
The advent of cosmetic dentistry has made patients more aware of the benefits of a healthy smile. The industry has made several advances to make dental experiences more pleasant. Patients can improve their smiles with orthodontic treatment.
Orthodontics involves the correction of the spacing and position of the teeth. In recent years, adults and children have new orthodontic options for dental treatment. Some new advances are clear, wireless braces. Many patients may benefit from straightening their teeth. In the past, many individuals would not seek orthodontic treatment due to lack of knowledge, cost, and the alteration in their appearance.
Clear Correct is a therapy designed to correct size, spacing, tilting, and bite relationships. Impressions are taken and sent to a laboratory where customized tray aligners are fabricated. Clear aligners are a series of appliances that are worn daily for a minimum of 22 hours to move teeth.
The benefit of this type of therapy is patients are able to maintain their daily routine of brushing and flossing without the presence of brackets, bands, and wires. This improves patient compliance and prevents the advancement of tooth decay and periodontal disease.
Patients are less likely to develop allergic reactions, oral abrasions or soreness from metallic fixtures. Generally, appointments are scheduled every six weeks to check progress and advance to the next series of trays.
The treatment time is 12-24 months. Each patient’s treatment time is dependent upon the severity of the case. Some patients finish treatment sooner, while others may require a few additional months to correct minor changes. At the completion of clear aligner therapy, patients may require esthetic correction to close small spaces or improve tooth size discrepancies.
In-office bleaching or at-home bleaching appliances are also performed to improve the color of the teeth and make a more appealing smile. In some cases, a combination of veneers and crowns will add the finishing touch to a beautiful new you.
