What Is a Body Story?
What is a body story, and why do you need to tell yours? How can therapeutic massage therapy benefit you?
We know that people are not just physical beings. There’s the emotional, spiritual, and intellectual part too. As we live our lives and gain experience, we encounter various events and situations. Some of the physical type of experiences are happy (jogging on a beach, parasailing, playing a sport, or my favorite, ballroom dancing), some of them, not so happy (car wrecks, sports injuries, accidents, falls, or other traumatic events.)
All of these things can take their toll on the physical body. But the emotions associated with the negative events, especially make an impact. With the mind-body connection, the difficult things we go through are not only at the site of the injury, but often stored in various other places too and can affect our mood, energy, and overall well-being.
Your body story is the sum of your physical and emotional experiences up to this point in your journey. Clients can be guided in discovering their own body story. Compassionate therapists create time and space, in a non-clinical setting, for you to tell your history. This helps to find the root cause of your pain and discomfort.
Telling your body story will help you discover the events and situations that may be affecting/exacerbating/contributing to your pain and discomfort today. Addressing that issue with massage therapy will help you to unwind the tense muscles, learn proper postures to help make corrections, and help you to release the negative emotions that weigh you down in regards to your injury and pain.
Therapists are available to hear your body story and help you on your journey to your best you yet.
