Chiropractic For More Than Back and Neck Problems

If you think going to the chiropractor for something other than back or neck problems sounds a bit unorthodox, what if I told you chiropractic can provide relief for headaches, ear and sinus infections and it's even utilized to alleviate PMS symptoms? Let me explain just how chiropractic can help with these problems.

Let's begin with headaches. Headaches can be caused when the nerves, which originate in the neck, become irritated and inflamed. When the inflammation is caused by misalignment of the vertebrae, chiropractic adjustments can be very helpful. Chiropractic adjustments, which realign the spine, will allow for proper functioning of the nerves, thus relieving headache symptoms.

Along with relieving nerve irritation, chiropractic can also facilitate the body's power to fight infection. Ear infections in children, for example, are caused by an excess of fluid in the inner ear, which then increases the likelihood of infection. Anyone who has had an ear infection or has seen a child with one can appreciate how painful this can be. Chiropractic adjustments have been shown to mobilize the drainage of the ear. Without excess fluid buildup, the body can fight infection quickly and efficiently.

The same can be said for sinus infections. When the sinuses are unable to drain naturally, they become a hotbed for infection. By mobilizing the cranial bones, which overlay the sinuses, a chiropractor can help relieve the pressure and congestion in the sinuses, thus allowing the body to recover quickly from infection.

Dysmenorrhea is the medical term for the painful cramping experienced by females during menstruation. As if the cramping didn't cause enough discomfort, some women experience headaches, nausea, and pain in the low back and legs. Typical treatment for these symptoms consists of rest, sleep, exercise, and abdominal massage. Chiropractic can also be of great help to those dealing with dysmenorrhea. Through gentle stretching and manual therapy of inflamed pelvic and lumbar muscles and adjustment of these areas, these symptoms can be greatly reduced.

Although chiropractic is widely understood to be an effective treatment for musculoskeletal pain, it is grossly underutilized for other conditions. The above conditions are only a very few examples that can be helped through chiropractic. If you or a loved one is struggling with a health issue, chances are chiropractic care can help.
