Shorts and Bathing Suits, Oh My!

If the idea of putting on shorts or your bathing suit makes you cringe, it is not too late to do something about it. Forget about your own or other peoples judgments of how you look; you have a right to be cool and comfortable and to swim this summer no matter what you weigh. There are a lot of us out here who do not look like movie stars in our summer clothing, but we still enjoy the season. But, lets say you would be happier wearing more revealing summer clothes if you weighed less. This is an ideal time to get going on a weight management and exercise program.
You might be very surprised at how much better you would feel mentally and physically if you lost five to 10 pounds and tightened up some of those sagging muscles. Many of us get discouraged because we feel we have to lose a tremendous amount of weight to make a difference. Actually, medically, just a 10% weight loss can result in measurable differences in your health. And, just a month of exercise can make you smile when you glance at yourself in the mirror.
There are many kinds of diets out there, some of them dangerous, others satisfactory for short term weight loss, and many that work well for those of us who will have to be on a diet for months and months to reach our goal. To select a proper weight management regimen

Take a look at the food pyramid to make certain you know what your body needs for proper nutrition.

Check with your health professional for recommendations based on your health.

Think about your food likes and dislikes.

Analyze your eating habits figure out if you eat too much all the time, some of the time, or at a particular time of day or under certain kinds of pressure or situations. Are your food choices too caloric?

Determine how many meals a day you eat away from home in restaurants or using takeout/pre-prepared food.

Ask yourself how much support and encouragement you will need to be successful and whether you would do best with individual or group support.

Review web sites, books, or magazine articles that summarize the elements of various weight management programs.

You can be successful whether you go it alone or join a program or use a weight management coach. It is just a matter of finding what works for you. Dont be discouraged if you have tried to lose weight before and havent succeeded. I think most people who have lost significant amounts of weight and kept it off are just like you. They just had to experiment until the weight management program and the time was right for them. And I should know, I lost 100 pounds.
