A cooling gel or device is used to protect the outer layer of the skin and to allow the laser light to properly penetrate the skin. Ice packs, cooling gels or lotions may also be given to soothe the treatment area after the procedure is complete.

What to expect

For a few days following treatment, the area treated may look red or sunburned. Applying a cool compress or moisturizer will help to alleviate such sensitivities. Be sure to wear sunscreen in exposed areas for appropriate protection. Over the course of a month, hair in the treated area will shed.
