The Season Of Freedom
Summer includes a lot of endings, such as promotions, graduations and perhaps moving on. This is the time of year when we know it’s time to let go of the old, take a long breath, and let go.
Yet the very idea of letting go can be so unsettling for many of us, because change means loss. Things will never be what they were, held seemingly static by the structure of the school year. Summer allows for all things wide-open, and (gasp) perhaps even the unknown. We may immediately grasp at the next thing, the busy vacation schedule, the long to-do lists or maybe even preparing for fall. It helps us to fend off the losses, the changes, the void. Sitting in the moment.
The end of summer is the perfect time for many of us to sit back and notice, look around at our life and see where we are, to play, to have fun, to be spontaneous and to relax. Embracing change, letting go of control brings wonderful freedom even if it may also bring some fear around just allowing life to simply be. We know that if we don’t take the time to sit with ourselves and truly look at where we are and what we want our lives to look like, how do we create the blueprint? How do we know what’s best for us?
So take some time and regroup. Look at each area of your life and see what you need to let go of, change, or plug into. The long days provide an open space for you to regroup and take a look at where you are. Summer gives us the freedom to simply stop and listen, to ourselves.
