Richard J. Edgar, MD

Dr. Richard Edgar is a Primary Care Sports Medicine Physician at Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic specializing in non-operative musculoskeletal treatments. He has advanced training in concussion management, diagnostic ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided injections, including platelet-rich plasma (PRP). He performs advanced ultrasound procedures such as TenEx/TenJet and ultrasound-guided carpal tunnel and trigger finger releases.

A native of Mechanicsville, MD, Dr. Edgar played youth soccer for DC United and captained the U.S. Men’s U-15 and U-17 National Teams. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from George Mason University with a BS in Psychology and was inducted into their Men’s Soccer Hall of Fame. He earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland, completed his Family Medicine Residency at the University of Pennsylvania, and a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Crozer Health.

Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 11, Dr. Edgar understands the challenges of chronic illness and injury recovery. He holds the IOC Mental Health in Elite Athlete Certification and serves as a team physician for the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Soccer Team and local high schools.
