New Technology In the Chiropractic Office

As technology has evolved through time, so has the practice of chiropractic. It has progressed into more than the traditional spinal manipulation.

The DRX9000 is a state-of-the-art device used in the treatment of herniated discs, bulging discs, sciatica, degenerative disc disease and facet syndrome. The vertebral discs in the spine act as cushioned shock absorbers for the body. When these discs are injured, whether from acute trauma or chronic stress, they may bulge or even herniate thus pressing on the spinal nerves or spinal cord. Depending on which nerves are impacted, a person can experience intense pain in the neck, back, arms or legs.

The DRX9000 is used to decompress the specific spinal level by gently stretching open the space where the disc resides. This opening of the disc space allows the herniated or bulging disc material to move off of the nerves or spinal cord.

Graston Technique is an instrument-assisted manipulation method for treating various soft tissue injuries. It is currently used by several professional and college sports teams to treat their athletes. Although it is a great technique for treating sports injuries, you do not have to be an athlete to benefit from it.

Graston has been clinically proven to achieve quicker and better outcomes in treating carpal tunnel syndrome, sprains and strains, fibromyalgia, golfer's/tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, rotator cuff tendonosis and trigger finger.

During treatment, the clinician uses stainless steel instruments to comb over the affected soft tissue and detect areas of inflammation and restriction. Then the Graston tools are used to break up scar tissue and create a controlled inflammatory response, which increases blood flow to the area allowing for quicker healing of the tissue.

Another option for the treatment of pain and inflammation is low level laser. The Erchonia laser is used to apply visible coherent light to an injured area. These packets of light energy pass through the skin and are received by energy photo acceptors within the cell membrane. This increase in energy within the cells of the injured tissue initiates several complex enzyme cascades, which increase micro-circulation and enhance tissue regeneration.

These are only a few examples of new technology utilized in chiropractic. Along with chiropractic adjustments, doctors of chiropractic administer these new technologies and new techniques in their quest to help patients get out of pain and stay out of pain.
