Dental New Year’s Resolution

Dental New Years Resolution

The New Year is a great opportunity to make a fresh start to resolve and improve oneself. Too many people overlook dental health as being a very important part of their overall health and they do not make the associated resolution to greatly improve their dental health.

Nevertheless, New Years resolutions can be difficult to keep. For many reasons, the process of keeping the resolutions themselves is unrealistic. For example, many people focus on just losing weight instead of resolving to live a healthier life. It is much easier to adopt a healthier lifestyle than to focus on losing a few pounds, only to gain it back, plus a few extra.

When the focus is properly placed on overall health, the place to start is in your mouth. Most things enter your body through your mouth. It is important to keep ones teeth healthy and functional when trying to maintain a healthy life style for several reasons.

First, digestion begins in the mouth. Teeth must be aligned properly to withstand the forces of chewing.

Second, it is important to keep the inflammation in the mouth to a minimum. An infection in the mouth can spread to other parts of the body and has direct correlation with heart disease, diabetes, low birth rate babies, and arthritis, to name a few.

Third, cavities and gum disease can be contagious and can be spread to loved ones via kissing, sharing utensils, etc.

Most people are unaware that poor dental health can promote heart disease and different kinds of cancer including; oral, throat, neck, esophageal and stomach cancers. Gum disease also exposes the entire circulatory system to infections.

Its proven that once you start improving your oral health, its easier to adopt a healthier lifestyle. For example, many people have eliminated toxic foods from their diets after visiting the dentist.

As you make promises to yourself about health and personal growth in 2010, its important to remember the importance of your oral health. Make regular visits to your dentist. Dental health is a crucial component of overall health as your mouth is the primary entryway into your body.

Plus, a healthy mouth is going to make you more attractive the first thing most people notice about you is your smile. So, indulge yourself in a selective dental procedure that will enhance your smile and make your mouth healthier. Commit to replacing missing teeth, treating gum diseases, getting cavities filled, replacing old broken fillings and restoring worn teeth. By doing these simple things you can save a lot of time and money in the future.

Treat yourself to something elective like teeth whitening or veneers they can do wonders for your smile. Many people spend a lot of money trying to look their best by buying new clothes, even a new car to enhance their image, but nothing can enhance your image more than a dynamic smile. The more you smile, the more you feel good and feeling good can become quite addictive.
