A New Mind For a New Year
For many people the new year marks a good time to start out with a clean slate; a new resolve to do things better this year.
Think to your own past resolutions. How many of them have you given up on by the second week of January? Why does this happen?
We start out believing that if we make the resolution to change the bad habits we have, and keep trying, we will succeed. The trouble is that we are starting out with the same mindset that we had last year. Before we know it, we are back where we started from, discouraged and disillusioned.
How are we to avoid this trap? We need a new mind-set for the new year. The resolve is made by the conscious, logical mind.
The part of the brain that allows changes is the subconscious mind. It is what really needs the resolve, as it is the part that keeps holding us in the past.
One of the fastest and easiest ways to access the subconscious mind is through the deep relaxation achieved through hypnosis. According to the National Guild of Hypnotists, as adults, the brain is in this natural theta wave state 70 percent of the time.
During this time, the subconscious mind is more open to new thoughts and the release of old programing. The mind controls the body; if you can change the mind the body will follow.
By replacing the old, limiting belief systems with healthy new ways of thinking, new neural pathways in the brain can create long lasting results. Even if you have given up on resolutions in the past, it is not too late to change for the better now.
