DNA Methylation: Achieve Optimum Performance

Why do some people get sick and others do not when exposed to the flu or another virus or bacterial infection? Why are there members of a family that never get sick while another close relative is sick all the time?

We are born with an innate intelligence that sets up our foundation for future health and wellness, or sickness and disease. At conception our inherent DNA is programmed into our body and basically sets the initial course for our developing years. We are then exposed to all sorts of environmental assaults: physical toxins, that come in the form of biological organisms, like viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungus and mold, or man-made pollutants like chemical pesticides and industrial toxins. This is cumulative and ultimately burdens our ability to maintain good health.

We also carry inherited toxins and genetic disorders from our parents through their genes that have been handed down to us over many generations. Simply stated we have “good and bad” genes. What determines our overall health is a metabolic and biochemical process called methylation. It is through this process that our genes, good or bad, express themselves.

There is a company called 23andme, which provides the service of obtaining your raw genetic material, as well as providing your ancestry information.

Having this raw genetic information in hand enables us to see and study how your specific body processes methylation. We analyze these results to personalize what you need for your body to obtain optimum health, through nutritional supplementation, dietary and lifestyle modification.

Every month articles appear talking about pharmacogenomics to create specific medications that will work more effectively in treating and managing diseases. In the wellness paradigm we want to focus on nutrigeonomics when we are treating body dysfunctions that may manifest in an acute or chronic illness.

Pain and inflammation express themselves as conditions like headaches, neck and back pain as well as extremity pain. They all are a result of a combination of bad biomechanics as well as deficiencies in nutrition. Now with the study of epigenetics, we use DNA methylation analysis to achieve optimum performance through biochemistry. We fix the defective gene expression by correcting the deficiencies in the methylation cycle and allowing the body to fix itself naturally and more efficiently.
