The Importance Of Cleaning Glasses
The first reaction to the above statement might be, “of course it's important, seeing is better through clean glasses.” However cleaning glasses thoroughly without scratching the lenses requires a special technique.
It is also important to keep the frame clean and hygienic; after all, it may be in contact with your skin all day, day after day. Dead skin cells mixed with skin oil and dirt form a nasty paste, which can accumulate on the frame and cause skin to look red and inflamed where the frame rests.
Your glasses need to be washed at least every couple of days. Get them wet under warm, running water, take a little dish soap (for hand dish washing, not machine) between your finger and thumb, and rub both sides of the lenses, the edges of the lenses, and the frame. Rinse thoroughly and gently dry with a clean paper towel yes, a paper towel is fine, it will not scratch the lenses, dirt does that, and you have rinsed it away.
If you have stubborn deposits, around the nose pads for instance, you can soak your glasses lenses up, in a bowl of warm water with the dish soap, for about 15 minutes. Then take an old toothbrush, and carefully clean off the deposits. Rinse thoroughly and dry as before.
If your glasses still leave red marks, visit your optician, an adjustment may improve your comfort.
