Introducing Kybella First Injectable Treatment For Double Chin
What is Kybella?
Kybella is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells under the chin to improve your profile without the need for surgery.
Who is a good candidate?
If you feel self-conscious about fat under the chin, also known as submental fullness, you know that the condition can make you look older or heavier than you actually are. In a survey of men and women, 67% said that they were bothered by submental fullness, which can be caused by genetics, weight gain, or aging. If you eat well and exercise, but submental fullness does not go away, you may be a very good candidate for Kybella.
How does it work?
The active ingredient in Kybella is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, it destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under ?the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
How many treatments would I need?
Since everyone's chin profile ?is different, the number of treatments varies from patient to patient. Your physician will help determine how many treatment sessions you need based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat and your personal goals. Treatment sessions are given at least one month apart; you should not receive more than six treatments. Many patients see visible results in 2-4 treatments.
What are the possible side effects of Kybella?
Kybella can cause nerve injury in the jaw that can temporarily result in an uneven smile of facial muscle weakness (experienced by 4% of people in clinical studies) or trouble swallowing (experienced by 2% of people in clinical studies). It is important that you see a well-qualified physician to administer Kybella.
The most common side effects occur in the treatment area and include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of firmness.
