Q What are symptoms of colorectal cancer?
A Rectal bleeding or pain, change in regular bowel habits, new onset constipation, change in the shape of stool, unexplained anemia, unexplained weight loss and new onset of lower abdominal pain.
Q What are the risks factors associated with colorectal cancer?
A Family history, age, weight and obesity, diets that are high in fat and red meat, and smoking.
Q What can I do to prevent colorectal cancer?
A You've heard it said that what you eat will affect you later. Well it's true. However, with a timely colorectal cancer screening and a healthy diet that includes a variety of vegetables and fruits (at least five servings/day) and whole grains this disease can be prevented.
Primary prevention is the key. The colonoscopy remains our most sensitive tool at offering a strategy for both early detection and prevention. In addition to a sensible diet, regular exercise and avoiding obesity, you can assist in fighting off this deadly disease.
